Six new faculty members have recently joined the Institute for Technology and Humanity (ITH), University of Cambridge. All three research centres at ITH – the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (CFI), the Centre for Human-Inspired Artificial Intelligence (CHIA), and the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER) have welcomed new faculty members who’ll be teaching this academic year.
Centre for Human-Inspired Artificial Intelligence (CHIA)
Dr Ariel Goldstein just started at CHIA in a role of an Assistant Professor in Cognitive Science and AI. In his research, Ariel explores high-level cognition of the human nonconscious, using it as a window into understanding human consciousness.
Dr Umang Bhatt is an Assistant Professor in Trustworthy AI joining CHIA from New York University, where he focused on building trustworthy AI systems that are transparent, fair, and accountable. Umang has a background in computer science, statistics, and responsible AI governance.
Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER)
Dr Charlotte Hammer joined CSER earlier this year in a role of Assistant Professor in Global Risk and Resilience. Her research focuses on issues of health security and infectious disease epidemiology.
Dr Alexandru Marcoci is an Assistant Professor in Global Risk and Resilience with a focus on Artificial Intelligence. His research explores the impact of AI technologies on social and democratic institutions.
Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (CFI)
Dr Dorian Peters has recently joined CFI in a role of Assistant Professor in Ethical Design. Dorian is a human-computer interaction researcher who specialises in design for digital health and wellbeing, learning, and translation of research to practice.
